Historic Season for Can-Am Off-Road Racers
Dec 11, 2014 - 5:58 PM - by NickJ

Kyle Chaney (Chaney Racing / Can-Am) won the 2014 Grand National Cross Country XC1 Modified (side-by-side) class championship in his Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs unit, giving BRP its first ever GNCC side-by-side title.

Record season includes SCORE Class 19, GNCC XC1 SxS and 4x4 Pro Titles
Valcourt, Québec, December 11, 2014 – BRP’s Can-Am ATV and side-by-side racers earned a record number of wins and championships across North America in 2014. Racers secured more than 16 total championships, including the first GNCC XC1 Modified (side-by-side) class and SCORE International Class 19 Pro side-by-side championship.
Team member Kyle Chaney earned BRP its first GNCC XC1 Modified (side-by-side) class title behind the wheel of his Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side vehicle. Chaney recorded three consecutive event overall wins and had four total podiums in six rounds of racing.

“It was a great year winning the GNCC XC1 overall championship. I'm proud to be a part of such a historic season,” said Chaney. “The Can-Am Maverick vehicle comes off the showroom floor pretty much ready to race, and the new Maverick X ds Turbo model with the first factory-installed turbocharger will change the game.”

BRP’s Can-Am racing team captured numerous ATV and side-by-side championships across America, like the inaugural GNCC 4x4 Pro class, its first GNCC XC2 Limited side-by-side crown and around a dozen more titles in respected mud, motocross and endurance racing circuits.

Whether it’s the powerful and precise configuration of the Maverick 1000R side-by-side or the impressive and aggressive makeup of the Renegade line-up, Can-Am vehicles are built for those seeking to reach the podium.

“The racing community chooses the Can-Am brand because our vehicles offer industry-leading performance and unmatched dynamics. Our historic season gives us momentum for the upcoming season and undoubtedly reinforces our message that the ride says it all,” said Philippe Normand, director, Global Marketing, Can-Am off-road.

Burnett Wins SCORE Championship with Maverick
Nov 19, 2014 - 4:33 PM - by NickJ

Can-Am Side-By-Side Pilot Cory Sappington Third At 2014 Baja 1000

Valcourt, Québec, November, 19, 2014 – Can-Am® Maverick™ side-by-side racers competed at the 2014 Tecate SCORE International Baja 1000 race on the Baja Peninsula, tallying one Class 19 podium and the overall season championship. Racing solo, Marc Burnett (Burnett Motorsports / Can-Am) finished the endurance race in sixth to secure BRP / Can-Am its the first ever SCORE Baja 1000 season class side-by-side title. The Desert Toyz / Can-Am team of Cory Sappington also had a solid race, earning a third-place podium finish at this year’s gruelling 1,275-mile race held in Mexico.

“We were impressed with effort put forth by all our teams, but especially Marc Burnett, who not only won the SCORE Class 19 championship with his Monster Maverick, but also completed the entire 2014 Baja 1000 ironman. With two wins on the year and then this final outstanding effort, he deserves a lot of credit for finishing strong,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “We were absolutely thrilled to see Cory Sappington’s Desert Toyz Can-Am Maverick earn a prestigious Baja 1000 podium spot with such a difficult course.”

The 2014 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 featured a challenging course that snaked its way through the rugged desert and hit both coasts on the Baja Peninsula, winding 1,275 miles from Ensenada to La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. Nineteen side-by-sides entered Class 19, but only eight finished in the allotted time.

Can-Am Maverick 1000R pilot Marc Burnett (Burnett Motorsports / Can-Am / Monster) came into the most prestigious SCORE race with the Class 19 points lead, having won both the Baja 500 and San Felipe 250. By simply finishing the extended Baja 1000 course, Burnett could wrap up his first career side-by-side championship for himself and Can-Am. However, he also decided to compete the Baja solo (ironman), driving more than 1,200 miles alone.

The No. 1917 team of Murray Racing / Can-Am / ITP was also in the running for the overall title, having reached the podium at the series opener and posting a win earlier in the year at the Imperial Valley 250. The final Can-Am team consisted of the No. 1904 Desert Toyz / Can-Am Maverick of Cory Sappington, who came into Baja fourth in the class... [Read More]

Team Riders Sweep 4x4 Pro, XC1 Modified Classes at Ironman Finale

Bryan Buckhannon almost retired after winning all 13 rounds of the 4x4 Open class last year to win the title, but decided to come back and race a Can-Am Renegade 4x4 in the inaugural 4x4 Pro class. The multi-time GNCC champion didn't disappoint, as he won the championship by 18 points, recording four wins and 12 podiums along the way.--

Valcourt, Québec, October 28, 2014 – Kyle Chaney won the 2014 XC1 Modified SxS championship, Marcus Pratt took home the XC2 Limited SxS title, both in Can-Am® Maverick™ 1000R side-by-side vehicles, and Bryan Buckhannon captured the 4x4 Pro title on his Renegade® 800R X® xc at the pinked-out AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country series finale in Crawfordsville, Ind. Can-Am Racers posted podium sweeps in both the premier 4x4 Pro and XC1 Modified SxS classes at the Ironman event, concluding the year in dominating fashion.

“This particular GNCC season was amazing because we won every class where our team-supported racers competed in,” said Jeff Leclerc, Racing Project Leader, Can-Am. “Kyle Chaney put together a very consistent season, easily winning the XC1 Modified class in his Maverick 1000R. Bryan Buckhannon simply outran the competition on his way to winning the inaugural 4x4 Pro division, a class that saw us take the top three spots. Factor in our other titles and the podium sweeps at Ironman and we put a big exclamation point on 2014 – our best season ever.”

The Ironman GNCC finale, one of the most popular and well-attended events on the annual 13-race schedule, was held on nearby farmland, complete with hills, creeks, mud, woods and a man-made MX course outside of Crawfordsville. Along with it’s dramatic championship story lines, Ironman is also hugely popular for its proximity to Halloween and because participants and fans wear pink to promote breast cancer awareness.

With a 28-point lead heading into the final round, Kyle Chaney (Chaney Racing / Turnkey UTV / JB Racing / Can-Am) simply needed to... [Read More]
