Im part of Sebastián Palma team, Can-am team rider Sebastián Palma won the title of the 4×4 class, placing fifth in the overall quad category in the previous Dakar 2013.
Dakar Rally is the maddest race on earth and next year the best candidate for winning the title of the 4×4 class is Sebastián. The goal is to be among the three fastest guy in the overall quad category.
We are just looking for support and I invite you to follow and share his facebook page recently launched.
"Changes to the rules for motorcycles have inspired a similar approach to the quad category, with the introduction of restrictions on engine power. Thus, for two-wheeled motor vehicles, the limit is set at 750cc (for four-stroke engines only, and 500cc for two-stroke engines) and for four-wheeled motor vehicles at 900cc."
Thanks. I figured it had to be because of restrictions. So is the 800 built up to the 900cc max? Is the machine anywhere near stock or is it fully modified? I assume it's heavily modded. Just curious.
No, it is as stock as possible. In order to win the dakar the most important thing is reliability and keep the weight as low as possible. When you start over modifying your ATV problems suddenly appear. Its 6.000 miles of continuous real punishment.
The main modifications are:
-Getting rid of all stock the plastics that are not absolutely necessary.
-Redesign trying to have quick access to the CVT belt, gas pump, cooling system and overall engine compartment for quick fix during the race.
-Shocks.
-Extra gas tank.
-Extra 3lts. water tank.
-Navigation Equipment.
-Higher and tougher real leather seat.
-Under-belly protection.
-Tires&Wheels.
And some other things that I cant really tell you right now.
Cool video, But honestly think some more shots of forward view would sweet also, Very jealous, would love to do something like this. Thanks for the updates
I know, we have the shots forward, but we don't have time to edit them . During Dakar we have some pro guys that will take care of the media and video.
I liked the Facebook page, the wife and I follow all the Dakar on TV that we can find, we love that race. I am more into the trucks and big trucks but I watch it all, hated to see the death of Kurt caselli earlier this year, he will be missed.
