Performance ATV Parts Though Shaft for Can-Am

here is the Performance ATV Parts Though Shaft compared to the stock (broken) 2009 part

DSC00333.jpg

www.performanceatvparts.com/

the gorilla through shaft does not have the groove for the c-clip to be installed (atleast the one my buddy bought last year), the c-clip is what the u-joint yoke butts up against when you tighten the bolt, if the c-clip isn't there the the yoke will be loose on the splines and splines will end up wearing out from the play

my buddy installed the gorilla in his bike last year, now he needs a new yoke for the front drive shaft

If I would have known about that performance atv had the shaft, I would have got it over the gorilla. The gorilla is more expensive and doesn't has the groove for the c-clip

2010 800 xt-p
--all black plastic, 31" outlaws on diesels, HL signature series lift, gorilla thru shaft, rhino axles. gorilla rad relocator, snorkelyouratv, QSC clutch kit, hmf pipe and optimizer, d2 fender flares, yellow LEDs in rad relocator and cat eyes.

2011 sportman 90
--completely stock and gonna stay that way

they told me that all the ones they have put it did not need any clearancing inside the cases

mine did, but just bearly, i could get it installed but it rubbed, i wrapped and piece of 80 grit sand paper around it, installed it with only one bearing on the front drive shaft side and held it up against the cases while i turned it by hand, then it fit, it only removed very little material

i had a shop towel in the bottom of the cases while i was sanding it, then took it out and rinsed the bottom of the cases out real good with brake cleaner, the crank case needed cleaning any way because there were metal shavings laying the bottom because i rode it about 80 miles with the through shaft broke

i will measure the diameters of them both tomorrow

i haven't put it together yet, waiting on one more bearing for the through shaft, the bearings didn't like the metal shavings in the bottom of the cases!

the stock shaft is 0.626" OD
the performance ATV parts shaft is 0.740" OD

the diameter is not much bigger, but the torsional strength would be 65% greater for the performance ATV shaft if the two shafts were made from the same material
