I just use Goo Gone, its cheap & does the job. wipe it on with a rag, let it soak some and wipe dry.

I have never had a problem hurting the plastic, but I cant say for sure if you leave it on a long time if it would dull it.

I used to use "goof off" many time to remove the factory stickers off of snowmobile hoods. The only problem that I ever had was it would dull the finish a little, just like it was pulling the clear coat. Wasn't that big of a deal to me, but if you want the glossy finish I would be careful.

Varsol is good. Does not hurt windshields or Can-Am plastics. Brake clean on the other hand... Bad for Skidoo Windshields.

Sounds like you have experience with the brake clean!
