Try it and see, put it back if it don't do right. I'll bet it'll run cooler. If a car runs cooler with a thermostat from the coolant circulating too fast, the solution is to spin the water pump slower, to slow down the coolant. It takes less power this way, as the engine doesn't have to spin the water pump as fast. In the rotax 800, the water pump is gear driven, so slowing the water pump down would be a lot of trouble. If the water needs to be restricted, just gut the thermostat, then the water flows whenever the pump (or engine) is running.

PM sent back. All of us down here do not run them and mine runs cooler. You will the neck gasket from the rear neck to place in the front. This would solve a lot of all heating issues

What does the thermostat look like? On autos and boats I have had sucess with drilling holes in the stat. That way the restriction remains so the coolant stays in the radiator long enough to cool. I have also ripped the diaphragm out of the stat and had good luck.

John,

Have you had any issues with running too rich with the lower temps? On a 1990 Chevy I removed the stat on it ran great and cooler but also richer. This eventually clogged the cat converter and caused a host of other problems. I know an ATV doesnt have a converter but I was wondering if the computer will stay in a cold start mode or something and run the engine too rich and create a fouling problem or something.

I cant see any reason other than emmissions that a quad should run at 200 degrees. Everything should work better with lower temps including the comfort of the rider.

Ron

john cannon: So your saying run without a thermostat and it will run fine and cooler. You just need to replace the t-stat with a spacer.

This would be great news for alot of us!

I would think that fuel economy might suffer a bit if the overall engine op temp was reduced enough to feel it at your legs. But for those that run in the hotter areas might be an overall cheaper fix for this "issue". And while we are discussing this heat issue.. anyone know of any of the other big bores that run cool compared to the outty?

Ya, I would definetly run without the t-stat especially in the summer when I go to the Vegas area, if I knew there wouldn't be any "issues". A little less MPG wouldn't bother me. I thought of this (like others have) after the first "hot leg" ride, but I just assumed that the EFI/ computer driven engine needed to run hot,... if not it's outathere!

I PM'ed john cannonto get back to us on this a few days ago.

Sorry guys. Ive been out of town. The rear washer that you use to replace the t-stat in the same type washer you would use on a car with an electric waterpump.

This is what it looks like

The only thing I was told was to let the motor warm up before I nailed on the throttle.
