Just got4 new 10x29.5 Outlaws mounted on my stock wheels, did the 650 helix with stock spring & 3Renegade + 3 Outlander weights. Pulled real well on the trails in high & did extremely well in the water & mudin low. Starts to engage about 1800 & 7100 at wide open. Real strong mid range pull. Really satisfied with the mod.
thats funny, the renes will do that WITHOUT any clutch mod!!! they will spin the piss out of 32's WITH NO PROBLEM.
if you put in 3 outlander stock weights, you hurt yourself. the renes stock profile weights are a great setup... and of course, why the helix... that rene is so light why do you need the front up more that what is does already????
but what do i know!
You know about "mud" racing in that brown water you guys call mud. You don't know about trail riding, muskegand BACKSHIFTING. You also don't know about high elevation....where you lose 3% HP for every 1000 feet above sea level.....so many of us who ride at 3000 to 6000 feet are riding machines that make the same power as a 650 or 500.
WOW, that would suck to pay a lot of money for a beast of a bike and NEVER get to feel the power. I think i would move!!!!!! but still, the profile of the rene weights are way better, why not just load up the daltons, if you need weight?
why do people think that "racers" dont trail ride... I have 2 clutch setups for all of my bikes so i can race or trail ride.

OK Thx...Anybody want to buy a brand new 650 Helix?
Try it first. You never know. I've heard some people seeing an improvement with the smaller tires. The reviews are mixed.

It's going to slow you down. For tires under 26" (except maybe Outlaws) the stock helix is better.
not if he knows how to compliment the secondary by reclutching the primary for the more aggressive upshift!
Hey Sno... Do you mean a Primary Spring Change..... I have (in the Box) a EPI Spring Kit for Stock Tires...

I ordered the 650 Helix and it should be here soon...
I know this has been discussed thru the 20 pages here, but
what should I expect to happen on a 09 Outty 800 with 25
Horns.. and I weigh 260 pounds if that matters.
I am just looking for a summary, thus far, of the mod on a
stock set up...
I put this weekend the 650 Helix...everything stock...
except the 26" Bighorns on 14" wheels..
I did a little test run before and after installing the new helix, I did notice it pulled a little harder (low-mid range), but nothing to get excited about...
It feels a little more responsive, my guess is that there is more belt grab...
But I need to run more tests and clock (before/after) my atv to say for shure how it performs...
In my situation, I dont think I lost anything on my ATV..

So what I'm seeing is that there is no loss, just gain. Even if the acceleration is the same, you at least got a better belt grab. Still worth the $40 imo.

1) he said he was satisfied with the mod, why bother saying anything to him?
2) my buddy's renegade wasn't doing very good when he put 27" 589's on. he couldn't wheelie it after he put them on. so far i've done a little work to the primary to get the power back that he was used to. but we are going to try the 650 helix for him, since my outy, fully loaded with gear and with 29.5's is still faster and pulls wheelies better than his renegade with the 27's.

I never tried just the 650 helix without the 3 Renny fingers, so I can not comment on just the helix. I do know that the combo of 3 renny fingers and 3 outty fingers seems to be a happy blend of weights for both the Outty and the Renny (there are a couple of people who may disagree, but plenty of posative results). My results with the 650 helix and 3 renny fingers are all posative. My top speed is the exact same, but I can wheelie over cross ditches at all speeds easier. I keep hearing about backshifting loss with the 650 helix, but I have not noticed it personally. I love the backshifting and engine braking of the Outty, and I would not want to mess that up. Mine SEEMS to backshift the same, but I am not an expert. Final report, my machine has the same engagement rpm as before, but it grabs more throughout the rpm range, resulting in a peppier throttle feel, and an illusion of more power/torque. I have no numbers to share, but I know I am faster by roughly 2 lengths in about a 400ft grass drag. I can raise the front end up easier, even at 40 mph.
Disclaimer...I have 26.5" tires, but the rears are 32lbs each, and add 14x8 wheels, and 1' spacers to that, and it robs a fair amount of power, so my results may be unique, and may not apply to regular 25", 26", 27" tire sizes. I have not ever tried the 650 helix without the different weights, so I am not really sure what would happen without the weight swap.
For the record, I have 6x 2007 Outlander XT'son the side of my house. 2x 800's, and 4x 650's. I assure you that the 650's backshift just as well as the 800's, so I would not worry about that helix ruining that. I use the stock 800 to compare any mods that I try, (and I have all my stock wheels and tires) so I can at least see if I am making progress, and I am.

1.) rene weight profiles are way better with their curve for shiftout... thats why a dalton is shaped like it is!
2.) It sucks that your buddy got a "bad" rene, that is so uncharacteristic of a rene to not pull!!!! out bikes will ride wheelies with 32's on them and crushed!
the rene is not bad, he exceeds the weight limit of it :tg: and i am being serious about that. he's close to 400 lbs. i'm just making the point that different things work better or worse for different people. just like his perceived engagement is a few hundred rpms higher than when i ride it. he lost power and his belt was slipping bad when he put on the 589's. i've done what economy work i can on the primary (he doesn't have the money for the dalton kit), so the 650 helix is the next reasonable step to giving him some more low end.
