So i decide to do my 10 hour maintenance my self, and order all necessary oils and filters. It all arrived today so i started to take off the oil drain plug, it seemed normal as i started to ratchet the screw. After several turns it started to turn freely and would not drop out. I pulled on it with very little pressure from a pair of pliers, and it dropped out. All round the bottom of the screw was the threads "Just Great i thought to my self". So first question is, has this been a common problem on 2009 rene 800 manufactured in mexico june 2008? question two what would be the best fix?

thanks

What was wrong with the plug? I missed something..

Not a common problem. But you will need a heli coil kit or have dealer repair.

This has happened to a few guys and there is a thread on it, here somewhere.

You'll have to get a thread-insert or go with a bigger drain-plug, either way you'll have to tap the bottom of the case.

The oil drain plug/drain screw i believe was tightened to tight from factory, and it stripped the threads then i loosened it.

Have you tapped and used inserts before? If you're not sure of the procedure, come back on. :)

Info.

This is the thread I was thinking about with the inserts. :2cent:

Man, that really sucks. If its one thing a guy should be able to do to his rig without taking it to the dealer its change the freakin oil, stripping a plug out like that should be a warrenty repair weather its done by the dealer or the owner.
