I have been a very avid reader and it is time for me to ask my first stupid question. I have had my 09' 800r outlander since early november and it has been great. Its all stock with the exception of some 27" xtrs on it. My question is, i havea popping/clicking sound comming from the rear of the bike. It sounds a lot like worn out cv joints in a car. I kind of shruged it off thinking it was just the nature of the beast untill i let my brother ride it and it was more audible being off of the bike. i have greased all the u-joints and they seem tight. i will be taking it in soon to get serviced and i will be having the dealer check it out. I was just wondering if all these can-ams were like this (noisy drivetrains). The bike is really strong, fast and rides like a couch. Other than the noise from the drivetrain in the rear, i have no complaints.

One of my Renegades has done it almost from dayone. The other doesn't make any noise at all and has 2000 miles on it. I took the clutch off the one making the noise and it stopped. Looked at the clutch and can't see anything really wrong.

Test: engine off, bike sitting....grab rear rack and shake machine side to side (hard). Does this cause the noise? If so: loose trailing arms, common and warranted.

Hilarious, is it possible there's something bound or caught in the brake disk or caliper? Sometime you can get a stick in there and it acts like a playing card in the spokes of a bike.. could also be a slightly warped disk.. could always jack it up, in neutral, spin the rear wheels manually with the engine off.. if it still clicks, you'll be able to locate it.. just some thoughts.

thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. all the u-joints, axles and trailing arms are tight. i just got the bike back and they say it is my drive belt making the noise. The profile of the belt seems to have "hourglassed" as they put it. Anyone else heard of this? I may pull it apart in the next couple of days and check it out myself.
