replacing front outer cv boot question

i got a cut in my front outer cv boot, how do i get the cv joint to come off the shaft? do i have to remove the whole axle from the outtie if so what do i have to remove, the brake caliper? then does it slide out? or can i just tap the cv joint off the shaft with a punch, while its still attached to the quad?

Give a HARD jerk out of the front differential. Put the entire shaft in a vice. Whack it HARD with a hammer. Follow the pocs in reply above..... just don't be shy.

got wake came up with the best way. unbolt both a-arms after removing the caliper and tie rod end (shock must be un-bolted first). it's far easier than trying to remove the ball joints without tearing them. once the shaft is out, put in a vise and knock the end off with a hammer and block of wood. i buy my replacements from thecvman.com for $20, same quality as oem.
