Default CVT Heat Reduction

I know this has been covered before...and I did a search but could not find what I was looking for..

What have you guys done to reduce the immense heat produced in the CVT....My X's CVT gets extremely hot for some reason...and more than the Outty ...and it should not have anything to do with being an 840.,..

What have you guys done to reduce this heat production?

I would like to do this as well. Especially in the searing heat of Southern Louisiana, it fries the side of my leg sometimes. I put my hand on the outer side of the CVT and cant believe how much heat is in there. Voodoo, are your bikes snorkeled? Mine is, and I imagine it will increase the temp by a few degrees due to the longer piping and maybe increased airflow restricion?

snorkeled mine with 2" and it doesn't feel any hotter than it was when stock.

highlifter did a study of sort on this. They did find that a 2" snorkledCVT was alot better on heat reduction than was stock and even on those that used a 1 1/2" snorkle. I no they had it on the dyno one time when I went by there and they were trying to find out which was the best and coolest (temp wise) to run.

That makes sense Bfree.....any kind of vent should help to release the heat....especially on the 08 and later models...

did you ever think that some may be the heat coming off the head pipe? i know the CVT's produce a lot of heat, but the heat coming off the muzzy head pipe is WAY worse than stock. if you really want to keep it cooler, get a small DC fan and hook it to the CVT intake if you don't plan to snorkel the exhaust.

I have noticed that the heat is worse coming from the Muzzy headers....and the factory heat shield did not fit on them.....I have put heat wrap on the headers and gonna put another layer on and see if that helps.....

the factory heat shield fits, but you gotta bend it a bit. not that it really does a lot of good, though. i got some L-shaped aluminum i put over one of the headers that i'm going to try tomorrow. the single layer of heat wrap is definitely not enough.
