Default HL/dayco vs. OEM belt

well after a bit more testing, i have to say the HL 3GX/dayco XTX belts really are impressing me. i have to take back all the negative things i have said about them. i have put the HL belt through some serious abuse and am amazed at how well it still is doing. i can say that the HL belt is seriously glazed over, yet still works very well. the only symptom of the glazed belt is when i'm WOT in thicker stuff, it'll bounce off the rev limit and come back down. there is not slipping on engagement and on the trails i can't tell the belt was glazed over. the can-am belt on the other hand, slips on engagement and if i go to WOT, it'll sometimes slip. the HL belt first got glazed over during the final heat in a race. after the races were done, we kept racing through the pits for kicks and grins. about 9 more times through the pit, and the only symptom was at about the 3/4 point in the pit, it would start hitting the rev limit and by the time i got out of the pit, it was in limp mode, but i still never got beaten i've since been trail riding twice on the glazed over belt, and its still working very well. here are some pics.

top belt is the HL belt:

top belt is the HL, bottom is a brand new HL belt:

the HL/dayco belt gets my seal of approval. you can find the XTX for less than the HL belt, btw.

Good info Wake..
I was reading your earlier comments a few days ago, cus I trashed a OEM belt and it busted my CV wide open at 65 mph...

so I started thinking about trying the new Dayco belt, seeing all de buzz about it on HL and though it was all BS.. so ignoring my conscience I ordered one and it arrived at my house yesterday.

Is there a proper break in procedure??

i'm glad to hear that matt has them now. that's where i'll be ordering from now on

Burner, before you install the new belt, sand the sheaves from the center out with 400 grit sand paper, then wash and let dry thoroughly. also, wash the belt with warm water and soap to remove any particles from it and also let it dry. install new belt, and for the first 20 minutes, don't do any WOT runs or heavy 4WD. after that, ride it like you stole it

Whats the purpose for the sanding? Is it to create a slightly rougher surface for the belt to grab?

I need to order a couple of new belts for upcoming rides out West, now that I see it has passed the Wake torture testing, I'll order the XTX's from Matt...(one day delivery to my front door...HeHe)

Wake, about how much were you paying for them? I think the last OEM belt I got from Parker was $147 delivered...
