If your feeling up to it, the best way to clean clutches, is to pull them from the bike and throw them in the dishwasher when the wifee isn't around! That plus all of the stuff wake mentioned in his post, and you'll be good to go.
huh, never thought of that. that's a good idea! and no wife to yell at me

I would add that those 3m scrubbies work well, as well. And I wouldn't have thought to wash the belt before installation but it makes sense. Clean off any of the oils left on there during manufacture... good call wake.
its not just the oils, but all the particles that get on the belt during shipping or storage. the cardboard particles can get embedded in the belt if they aren't cleaned off, and that will reduce the amount the sheaves can grip the belt.

Mine had 1850 hard miles on it and was still looking good. Mine got wet numbers of times back when it was new because of the leaking back plate. I just went ahead and changed it cause I wanted to test the new DAYCO XTX belt..I know this isnt the proper way to inspect and chage it but I was jusst letting ya know my experiences

how often should you change your belt? I have about 600 miles of trail riding on mine. (oem belt) think it got wet once.
when it is less than 30 mm wide or it is glazed over or showing odd wear.
