Default possible fuel pump problem 2010 Outty 800XT

Went on first long (3hr) ride today. Mostly 3-8 mph. on the way out to the trail head to explore the other side of the property my bike started acting up.
It would run for a second then "choke" out, it would pick up and go a lil bit then "choke" out again. Don't know exactly how to explain but it seamed like it was running out of fuel. I switched of the key and cycled the fuel pump a few times. The pump made a few weak start ups. Out of maybe 10 cycles maybe 3 of them were weak.
Does this mean the fuel pump is going out? Was the bike over heating? I had no lights on the dash come on. Needless to say i swallowed my pride and let an olddependable carb Honda pull me on to the truck before I burnt up the top end.
Any ideas on what the problem is?

Cananimal10, mine is doing something very similar as well. After the bike heats up (maybe running for about 1hr) it starts to act up. Runs great when it is cold. When I hit the gas it "bogs" or "chokes" itself out then when kick in again. We are going to have a look at the coil first, and if that isn't the problem then the fuel pump. It is strange though because it only happens once the bike heats up. I get no p-codes or messages on the dash.

What is your bike doing?

skturner, was ridin one day( bike was a lil hott). Started boggin down, then it would catch for like two seconds, then it would bog down again. Got it back to the truck and killed it, let it cool off. Went to turn the key on and noticed my fuel pump sounded weaker than normal. Just figured that was what it was. Loaded it up went home, next mornin crunk it up and rode it around and acted fine. Guess it done cooled off? But still didnt idle right and fuel pump still souded weak. Took it in for repair. But even when it was hott, i hammered the throttle, and it didnt miss a beat! Its wierd man hopefully its a warrenty fix

Thanks Blacky, guess I will have to look at that then. So does a fuel pump act up more frequently once the bike is hot?

Vapor lock. Mine did the same thing, gas cap whistling etc. Ride faster is what I did, solved the problem.
