Check the fuses and the spark plug. Might be good to check all battery connections to make sure they are tight( while you're doing this, get some Dilectric grease and grease the electrical connections).

Also check to see that the engine cut-off is switched on. ( also there should be a fuel cut-off switch on the side of the machine, Check to see that it is on).

thanks

thank you, you guys...

LOL it does have gas... The battery connection is good and tight and a new battery, charged it for 8 hours also. The gas switch by the carb is on, it reminds me of when I had a problem with my starter on my car and you could jump the solenoid, so i tried that, and plenty of sparks there, but nothing. You can feel the starter click and the solenoid.
So I heard to take the starter off and leave it plugged in to see if the starter turns and if it doesnt then I will know I need a new starter but I was also told if the starter turns the motor could be shot? This is why I am freaking out, the starter costs enough as it is being my 10 year old just bought it this morning but a motor would kill me..

what part of minnesota, I have a buddy up there that is a pretty good mechanic, he just rebuilt a renegade
when you jumped the solenoid and got sparks what happened?
did it try to turn over?
I apologise for not being more familiar with the specific machine but Im sure someone on here is going to hit it on the head

oh and fyi, if the oil looks good and the motor wasnt making weird noise before it quit I doubt its a motor
since it died while running I do believe it could be a short of some type

just did a little reading on the unit
seems there is a plastic spring and clip that holds the machine in neutral and it will not start if it is not getting a signal to say it is in neutral
try playing with the shifter and see if it starts

I live in North Branch MN, I am 30 miles north of the twin cities... But when I tried to jump it, it just clicked, nothing changed, but I am thinking it is the starter, I just found out when talking to the guy I bought it from that he had the timing fixed and I think maybe the guy messed it up and the starter is stuck on a notch and just wont turn, cause the starter feels like it wants to turn when you touch it. I have a buddy coming over tonight to see what he can do, he is pretty good with this stuff.. I will keep updated, but love to hear other peoples suggestions... it helps, ty

ya its more than likely something eletrical.... it could be the carb on those things too... could be all gummed up and not working properly or even seized.. dont worry tho if its that you simply take it off and clean it up... carb could be stuck shut. something to look at

its not turning over, i wouldnt jump on the carb just yet
may also pull the plug and see if it will turn over wtihout it, may signal a bad starter or loose connection, if it will turn it over with no compression but will not with compression

ok update.... well I charged the new battery last night and just put it in, the starter is spinning but wont turn over though. could it be possile that the timing chain got stuck and my battery was not good to begin with that it would not turn starter completely and now the new battery turned the starter and broke the timing chain?
