Anyone painted there rad?
I am considering spraying my rad black before installing my rad relocate kit, I think it would look better. Was wondering if anyone has done this? I know lots of old hot rods cruising around with painted rads but what about a 800 with a cooling system that is already maxed out?

as long as it's a lite coat i don't see a problem. i did a lite coat off flat black on my bike engine that is air cooled and i didn't notice a rise in temp even check with my temp gun.

I wouldn't because its gonna hold heat and if you do a light coat its gonna flake off here and there and really look like crap.

As you should already know the CA cooling system is not the best designed in the first place. Paint will only insulate the fins and slow the cooling down. It will start pealing shortly and then the pealed paint will plug the airway. As it is unless you are using the Temp controller to bring the fan on at 160* the cooling system in next to nothing untill you get up to speeds over 30 MPH.
You would only be making a bad problem worst by painting the fins.

I painted the outside part of the rad (not the fins) and have not had a problem.

Plywood garage floor?? Would be nice in the winter but... Flammable all the time... lol
Radiators are bare aluminum or copper for a reason... Now you could Anodize them.... that would be fine..

I painted the Rads on my KX500. It worked great. The trick is to do 2 to 3 light coats. Dont rush it and you should be fine. If anyone knows about KX500's. They run hot anyway.

On fins the pain will behave like insulation and reduce the heat transfer rate.
