Default Fan question

Took my Outlander 1000XT for it's first ride yesterday, and the fan seemed to kick on a whole lot. Less than a 1/2 mile from the parking lot I noticed it kick on, ran for a minute and kicked off, then periodically it would kick on and off throughout the entire ride. Also, it seemed to kick on whenever I stopped. Can that be normal??? Also for the first 25 miles there was a hot engine smell that my brother riding behind me could smell. I did check the coolant and it was fine. By the end of the ride it didn't smell.

I wouldnt be worried about anything. It all sounds like it is running normal. Just think, you have a huge motor in that thing and if you arent going at a pretty fast speed then its going to need that fan on to keep everything cool. Mine comes on almost every time I stop too. The smell that he was catching was probably just the motor burning out the cosmoline that is left in from the factory. He probably saw a little smoke too from it. Once its all burnt out you should be good to go and not run into that smell anymore.

The 1000's also need the Fan Controller mod. Maybe even more so.
