The new can-am heat kit came into dealer today. I was a little disappointed as it only consists of one heat shield. It mounts under the seat and is longer and deeper than the one that is over the Y pipe now. It looks like it will protect the seat and intersection of the rear fender and left side panel a lot better. These are the worst areas for melting on mine.I think it will really reduce the seat heat but wiil not do anything to reduce leg heat. I believe it will be an improvement on reducing melting problems.
I haven't had it installed yet as we are still waiting on the rear fender. I will post a picture and a report of heat reduction after its installed.

So is it just for people that have melting issues, or is it something anybody who wants it can get?

Not sure what the availability is for everyone. I think mine is covered as I am on my second set of rear fenders and left side panels, plus early on my seat melted and cvt cover warped, Maybe one of our dealer members can try to answer that

Talked to my dealer, Rob's Performance, and he said the heat kit was a warranteed retrofit ONLY for those owners that have had seat or plastic melting problems. I suspect anyone could pay for one themselves if they wanted one. Unless demand gets so great its on "back order". Can't cost over $25.00US.

Washed my 800 yesterday then pulled into garage to change oil and do scheduled maintenance, I pulled cvt cover off to blow clutch out and had about a pint of water in it. When I put cover back on I could see the inside cover was warped again. This will be my second cover replacement as well as rear fender and left side panel.rear fender on back order so I have not had new heat shield installed yet.
Here is a picture of new heat shield that goes under the seat.

When the rest of the parts come in and heat shield gets installed I will post a review on it. Now my second cvt cover has warped I think this new shield may make cvt cover problem worse as It looks like more heat will be deflected down away from seat. We will see after it gets installed.
