I recently did some checking with a handheld Infra Red temp sensor (Harbor Freight sale item @ $9.99) and found that the fan on my 400 Max comes on at about 180 deg.as measured near the bottom right hand side of the rad. This is the hottest spot and is just forward of where the inlet connection from the engine is, and also where the fan switch is. It turns off at about 173. I must add that last summer my fan switch stuck in the off position so I had todrive on a temporary bypass wire (bent paper clip stuck in the wire connector) that caused the fan to run all of the time (key on) until I got it fixed. I didn't want to spring for a BRP switch so I cross referenced it to a Suzuki car fan switch and that works fine, but may be a bit out of tolerance and turns on and off too soon despite its stated 208 deg on and 203 off. Theexterior cylinder temp. seems to stay steady at 177 deg. That little temp. sensor is sure handy.

I would suggest that you put in a manual fan switch as is shown in several threads. That will solve all future problems as you can turn the fan on before you get into a situation where theadditional coolingmight be needed.

The right side of my 330 would get pretty warm. The radiators seem a little undersized, maybe to save weight. I did notice that after putting in water wetter the fan on my 800 seems to run less but I also had the BUDS update which is supposed to help it run cooler so maybe a combo of both. Either way it definately doesn't run as often and takes a lot longer before it kicks on.

I have had header wrap on my outty 400 for3 years and their ant a rust spot on the exhaust. Also another heat reducer is an aftermarket exhaust such as a biggun exhaust that also help with the heat issue.
