Is the secondary off so that you have access to the shaft?
I'm assuming since you said "inside the shaft" there is nothing hanging out to grab onto. If it broke off jagged, can you just use a pick and turn it out by grabbing on the highspot? If it's a flat break, can you use a centerpunch (very small) and punch the edge and turn it out backwards with a small pick? Can you score it with a narrow chisle and then turn it out with a flat tipped screwdriver?

welding a nut to the bolt and turning it out is an option.

I said shag it, and put my mechanic onto it today. He's going to extract the bolt for me, clean up all of the parts etc.
Ordered TWO new bolts, a new outer shaft, bushings, cam(helix) and backing plate. I won't get it for a couple weeks, but at least I can start off fresh. I was going to just order the complete thing from the inner shaft out, but my bro said it would be close to $800, it's better to piece it all together.
I can do other things to it while waiting.

that happened to me too, your title is right "not a good start" or maybe it should be "whats next", better follow what these other guys are doing because its a must to keep theses running. had my clutch seize up, then had to snorkel the cvt case so i could ride it in a foot of water , while you got case apart better snorkel front and back breather and silicone case gasket, then if you want to use winch upgrade to better battery and a second one like i did. also take winch apart a silicone all gaskets or it wont work long either, better order brakes too they wont last more then 400km, just had cv joint explode at 450km no warranty because i washed grease out of joint so they could work on it. dont try calling brp because it is a total waste of breathe and time. so you dish out 12000 for a quad then another 3000 to make it tough enough to ride beside the way cheaper Hondas which i have too with 3000kms and never been to doctor. too bad canam couldnt build a quad to handle all the power its got. better luck to you!! think ill go ride my honda

mmm k, thanks for the info/warnings pipeliner.
Newest latest and GREATEST update. I'm throwing my fooked up secondary clutch onto the plane tomorrow, and they are sending me up a brand new complete assembly, along with 2 bolts/thrust washers, and a new cam free of charge.
About $900 worth of parts for free. They need my old ones for warranty purposes.
It will be a week before I get them, but at least it will be all new.
Harv....

sorry to hear about your horrible luck (or complete lack there of) i had a similar situation with a brute primary. if there is enough access it might be possible to weld a piece of drill rod onto it and back it out.

Hey, Harvester, how'd this all turn out? Did they ever figure out the root cause of this calamity? I've got some questions if you have time. (use the quote button to fill 'em in)
1. Did anyone ever work on your machine before you did? Was the secondary ever spun off?
2. Did anyone ever have the clutch off?
3. Was your secondary bolt ever torqued to it's proper setting and the was the helix star washer properly set in place?
By the way, the NTN stock bearings are NOT crap. They're high quality Japanese bearings (ask any bearing house guy, they're good). They are stiffer than the cheap bearings like VBX, but that's because the side shields seal up pretty well and the bearings are tight.
On the torque issue, some would argue that a high quality anti-seize should be applied to a bolt to ensure proper torquing. It's the bolt stretch that provides the clamping function. If the threads are lubricated with a moly or copper anti-seize, the threads can slide on each other easier, and you'll get more turn of the bolt providing more holding force for the bolt. Never dry, ever. I apologize if this is old hat to you.

1. Did anyone ever work on your machine before you did? Was the secondary ever spun off? Nope, according to the previous owner.
2. Did anyone ever have the clutch off? Nope, cover has never been off of the CVT...still original belt.
3. Was your secondary bolt ever torqued to it's proper setting and the was the helix star washer properly set in place? Factory spec.

Hey, no worries on the old hat thing...it isn't really. I've only gotten about 5 hours on the new pulley...havin other issues now with oil pressure.
