Ballistic - I tried to install my HID kit today. I think I got the same kit as you because I have identical ballasts. My problem is for some reason I thought I wouldnt need a relay. So now I have ordered a relay, but am confused about hooking it up. Do we have to run a wire all the way back to the battery posts or are there auxillary hookups under the front pod area? I have a renegade and the battery in under the rear rack. Are your high beam lights still useable?

I didn't think I would need one either, but the computer didn't like being connected straight to these ballasts. I ran a fused power wire from the battery to the relay. The HID burners are now the only bulb, with one speed.

Hmmm, I didnt really want to give up my high beams, I was hoping to keep them and have HID in the lows. While still using the stock light switches. Do you remember what gauge of wire you ran from the battery to up front. Did you buy a relay kit and splice some longer wires to get back to the battery?

Ah yes, you have a Renny, you can just put the HID bulb in the low bulb place and fire it off of the low signal wire (through a relay if necessary). I ran a 10 gauge wire from the bat to the front compartment and did all connections in that vicinity. I pieced together my own harness.

I just got around to installing mine a couple of days ago, and ran in to the same problem....because I have dealt with lots of these kits in automotive applications and never had a problem, I was surprised when they were not working correctly. My Outtie gave me a "lost communication" message and the machine ran like crap!! I have left the battery on the charger and will attack this later this week. Fortunately, I have spare setups with an automove relay and the larger style ballasts, and direct wiring to the battery, so I will try that setup. These older kits use the factory connection as a SIGNAL only, and the power comes straight from the battery, and not thru the factory connector. I was really bummed cause I was expecting a better outcome, but hey...we will get this done! Just so you know, these slim ballast kits work awesome in the vehicles I have installed them in (about 12 so far)

well like i had said in a earlyer post, i have a plug and play kit made for the outlander. it came last thursday takes maybe a 1/2 hour to install. theres no relay, cutting, slicing, siliconing nothing just plugs right into factory wires then turn the key and ride.
so far its been working perfectly no issues

I cant justify spending $250 on a HID kit though ST222. I will have probably $70 in it once I get every last piece (kit, harness, extra wire, connectors) That leaves me $180 extra to play with. Yes I have a little more time invested, but there is like 8 feet of snow everywhere so I am not missing out on riding, just spending more quality time with my Renegade, and also learning a little something along the way.

thats very true murph, i understand. I was just trying to let people no who cant do this kind of wiring themselfs that there is a plug and play kit out there with no kinda skills needed.
yes its alittle pricey but all the leg work is done for you. plus it ends up looking factory being theres no extra wires and relays runing around. but all in all as long as it works thats all that matters.

by the way isnt spending time with the machine so nice cheers scott,
