winch problem..no more power.

My winch started making this weird sound and it has no more power.. i can hold the hook with one hand and try when i push the button to winch in, i can hold it back.. it's hard but doable..

if i let the winch reel in the hook by itself it makes no sound..

what's going on ? is the winch fubar ? this is a 2009, is the winch covered under B.e.s.t. warranty ? i bought the quad new with the winch installed from the factory.. it's the XT model.

Not too make you look stupid or anything but the switch on the side for winching or free spool is engaged correct?? If it is then the internal brake might be tits up. I've seen that happen to winches where people use them to hold the wheeler to a trailer. So when they go bouncing down the road that winch is being hammered the whole way there and back. Thats not what a winch is designed for. Good Luck..

yeah i tried meddling with the neutral/ loosing switch but it didn't anything xept letting the cable loose.

im gonna look at it further tonight...

but canit be covered under BEST waranty ?

As far as I understand it, if it has a BRP sticker on it, it's covered.

well it isin't...

i called up the dealer and they explained how it works..

you have to take it off the quad, and ship it at your cost to a place where they are qualified by Warn to fix them and do the warranty work.. oh and there must not be any mud and water in it..

for some reason they actualy think that winches on quads only go on tarmac ??

so i did the work myself.. and yes there was a ton of mud, and water in it.

cleaned everything up and grease it up pretty good too. the problem is the motor coupler thingy broke and was slipping..

35$ cdn on order.. gonna have it by wednesday.

but i still dont get why it says on the winch BRP XL 3000 and i have to send it...im gonna best warranty today and ask them... maybe the dealer was on weed or something.

the winch has a part number.. SKU: 705002505
Winch XT1$614.59

so it should be under warranty right ?
