Comet Clutch Removal?

How are you guys with the comet clutch setup removing it? I have never had mine off since installing it and need to take it off to do some back clutch cover repair. Thanks in advance.

i've always just used a big ass bolt that fits the threads and a steel rod. next time i'm going to try packing it with grease or soap or whatever and popping it off through they hydraulic pressure.

Thanks Brian i thought maybe a differant puller would work but the bolt and steel rod will do the the trick and is lots cheaper so thanks again.

Brian
I tried pulling mine this weekend with no success. Dang thing is freaking stuck. I know for a fact that stupid thing was not turning on the shaft. I am going to have to back up and punt on this one. I need a monster impact.

the most fool proof way to remove it is to get a bolt that is threaded for the threads in the clutch shaft. wrap the threads with teflon thread tape. if you have someone who can help you, tip the quad on it's right side, about 45 degrees, then fill the hole in the clutch with water. then thread in the big bolt and let the bike back down on all 4 wheels. then hit the bolt with an impact till the clutch pops off. every single clutch i've come across that has been hard to remove has popped off that way. if you don't have someone to give you a hand, don't tip the bike and just pack the hole with grease instead of water. the grease is just harder to clean up.

john, sorry i missed your reply four months ago. i'm guessing you got it off by now, lol.

to use that tool, simply remove the main bolt, apply anti-seize or grease the end of that tool, apply some to the threads (that helps to reduce resistance from them binding up), then thread it into the clutch by hand, once tight, hit it with an impact. if that doesn't get it to pop off, wrap the threads with thread tape, fill the hole in the primary with water or grease (same as above method i posted), then thread the tool and hit with an impact.

Thanks so much Got Wake for your help.

I try everything (I have no impact wrench). I use grease as you mentioned.

Nothing to do. Even the thinnest end of the clutch puller start to twist.

It makes me crazy.
