i ride a 2002 bombardier 400 ho outlander max and the battery keeps dying after about 30 miles of use ive heard this could be the stater but ive also heard its the voltage regulator. i tested the battery when it was off it tested at 12.70 volts then when running it tested at 12.30 volts sooo i dunno. any advice is appreciated.

Should be 13+ volts when running. I'm not an expert on Outtys, but I do know that what's happening is that you are not charging at all, just running off the battery till it doesn't have any juice left. I'm sure those with more knowledge than I will chime in.

Didin't you buy an aftermarket VR off ebay?
If you put a volt meter on the battery and turn on the lights (or load tester) does the V stay put or drop? If it drops rev the engine and see if it recovers. If not the VR is bad, if it does then the battery is bad (internal short?).
