Try Ebay, I think I remember seeing starters there for under 2 bills.

If you have an "automotive electrical" specialty shop in your area, they could probably do it.

i know what you're going through. there are lots of starters to be found for the right price, but the starter drive is hard to find, and even removing the old one on the 400's ... you have to remove the primary inner half to change out. i found a low mileage starter drive on ebay after a few months looking, but i had to buy the whole rotax 400 engine case to get it. it cost me 115 with shipping but was still cheaper than what they (BRP) wanted (300+) for a new drive. i still havn't installed yet because i have to pull the primary inner sheave to do it. meanwhile i've gotten the starter to keep engaging by keeping the drive clean and a small amount of dry lube squirted in there. i don't know if it is rebuildable or worth trying. i couldn't find new parts for the drive.
