2004 outlander xt broken cv joint question

I recently rebuilt my front inner cv joint with a kit i ordered from cv restoration online. I didn't get 1/2 mile and it popped out and all the ball bearings fell on the ground.

The bike is at camp on an island so it makes things difficult. I am wondering if it is ok to remove the cv shaft completly and use the bike for light duty work (towing trailer) to get some work done before i have a chance to figure out why it failed so quickly.

Thanks for your input.

Can Am CV Joint

I'm about to put a replacement inner cv joint back on to my 04" Outlander as well.
Yes, you can remove the shaft or just leave it, it won't hurt anything or cost you extra money to just keep it in 2-wheel drive and ride around.
As far as the cv joint messing up, it's just a bad design. The newer models 06" and on seem to be longer and offer more spline so the bearings etc. don't slip out. If you broke the outer cv joint your lucky, Ebay has them for $35.00, otherwise if you broke the inner like me your looking at $230.00.\
I was ready to post and ask anyone if they have taken the outer bearing cv joint parts and used them on the inner cv joint "bearings and cage", since their half the price. They look the same but in the picture there's some type of ring holding the bearing cage in place on the outer cv joint.
Sorry I didn't mean to sponge off your post
