Default 1000 compared to an 850

Went out for a nice 25 mile ride on my 1000 with my neighbor who also just bought a 2011 polaris 850. Turns out the 1000 is very nimble and fun in the ditches. Easy to wheely up or down any hill and across and road. The power is always on and ready to use. We traded for a bit to let him drive mine. i noticed how unstable the polaris was at high speeds with the power steering. Very twitchy and unsafe feeling. The power wasnt there either. It got up to speed but the 1000 pulls harder and faster along with tires spinning. It was no contest in a race and the ride is way better on the outlander. Not sure why people think polariss are so nice. JMO though. Love the 1000 and now theres no going back.

How does mileage compare? Friends with 850's aren't very happy with their fuel burn.

Not a direct comparison, but a dramatic difference in fuel mileage.

My Rzr 900 XP burned 5 gallons of gas to go 60 miles on its last ride, and my Outlander 800 burned 4 gallons to go 109 miles on its last ride.

I know, I know, one is a side by side and the other is an ATV, but 12 mpg vs 27 mpg?

Im not sure how the gas consumption is. Not a thing i have been to worried about. Its to much fun to care about that. ha ha yeah the power is so smooth but jumping from ride to ride it was night and day. its smooth and gets there fast while a polaris is not as smooth and just glides along up to speed.

Yeah, I agree. 25 miles is no sweat. We have been closer to 100 mile days with low fuel lights on getting home. We are all carrying extra, just in case
