Snorkel questions?
So I installed a Pines PSM snorkel kit today on my Outty, not impressed with the way everything fit, I'm sure this is due in part to myself. It really took a long time and I was running short on time towards the end which didn't help matters.
Needless to say, it's done. I'm just worried about how well it's going to work? I tried the "plugging air intake snork" test. Bike was idling and I covered the snorkel with my hand. It wouldn't die, I can hear air sucking from under the bars. Assuming its the air box.
Any tips? I'm also worried for any leaks with the other two being as how they are down low at the cvt cover. Any way to test it?
Also, should I worry about rain, etc gettin in? Mice? Lol
Should add that I had to turn the side ones downward so they are not even at all, my hand guards were hitting them when I turned. That's with a 2" bar riser.

I would get a hold of Pines and send em some pics, they can help you through it. If you hear it sucking air somewhere besides where it is supposed to fix it before you ride it.
EDIT: Take your time doing it now so it will work later, you can't hurry through this kind of stuff.

Believe me, I tried to take my time LOL.
The main problem is how tight fitting everything is. The picture cd they sent with it is nothing like it really was when it came to fitment. I'm a little scared to go back to Pines with this because I don't want to find out I wasted 200+ dollars.
I mean, it went ok until it came to everything fitting under the pod, it's very tight even after extra trimming and such. As long as it works now I'll be happy.
Attack the airbox with silicone? It seems to me like the air is being sucked in where the top of the airbox meets the bottom? If I rev it up a bit and plug it off with my hand it will eventually die, but not at idle.
I may take the inner fender out again and go around some of the joints with silicone too.

I wouldn't worry about getting a hold of Pines, they are awesome to deal with and they can probably help. Ask them. Anything it take to seal it up is GOOD, heh heh heh.

Its not a bad idea to silicone every connection. I did just to be on the safe side. but I would definitely find that leak before taking it anywhere close to water.

I did the SYATV and no matter which kit you get or if you do it yourself it is going to be a PITA unless you relocate the radiator and put the risers up from the front rack. There is simply a lack of room under the pod. Check the cap on your air filter opening, mine does not seem to close very tight. No sure what to do about it. Anybody else have this issue?

here is the fix to the air box lid
grease the gasket, I usually use dielectric grease because i have it handy in the aerosol can to apply it
It truely amazes me how many people use kits, fabricating snorkles is simple plumbing
I should start selling full 2" kits since the ones available have the darn 1.5" belt drive

If 1.5" pipe wont fit under the pod very well how do you think 2" will fit? You should start your own snorkle site. I got the kit because I did not want to make multiple runs to the store, have to paint plastics, and keep refitting stuff over and over probably. I doubt I could have made the homemade kit as nice looking as the bought kits. Guess I am willing to pay for the R&D part. LOL. Your right though, parts are all available at the Home Depots and plumbing supply houses. And I still cannot get the left plastic to fit on correctly yet. Sooner or later I will get it correct.HeHa

the 1.5 inch doesnt even fit well under the pod
just run it through the front trunk lid and be done with it
getting the front cowel off after installing pod snorkles to access air box is impossible in the field almost
the biggest reason I see motors in need of rebuild is improper air filter maintinance, making it harder to get to makes that a million times worse
just my opinion
I think I might start doing this
stay tuned to ebay lol
