Ignition switch replacement = Key reprogram?

My ignition switch is giving me issues and I'm considering changing it out. If I put in a new switch will I have to reprogram my keys? Will my key fit a new switch? It's a outlander 1000

I don't think you need to reprogram the key. Install new switch and should work. Switch is basically a slot, all keys will phisically fit.

Thanks. Got a reply from buddy who races for canam and knows everything about these bikes. "The keys aren't cut, they have a chip. The switch is generic. The chip in the key is matched to the ecm. Only new/replacement keys need to be programmed."
So there is some info for anyone else who wants to know.

Make sure your ignition relay switch in your fuse box is not going out.
I had the same issue on my 800R XMR. I changed out the ignition relay switch and solved my issue. Try swapping around the fan relay and the ignition relay just for a test and see if this fixes you issues. If it does then you know you have a bad relay switch. $15.00 for a new one.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up, i'll look into that. I think it's the switch just because sometimes one key position won't start it but the other will... etc.
