i am not a layer and i am sure as turbo said they are covering themselves by offering the shocks as an upgrade. but i was told that the outlander had 12' of ground clearance, the manual even says so. every state has a small claims court and the cost to file is almost nothing. it would not take long for brp to offer at least the springs, installed under the warranty for free. i went to court against an insurance company and they did not appear so they defaulted, cost them alot of money. just my take on the situation. also i like my outty, but when my kids with the pol 800 can walk over a log, and i have to go around because i am so low, that sucks. joe

Hey joe, I thought that was what the "single spar frame" was for, to slide over those rocks and logs!!?? mg:I have less than 400 miles on my 650, granted I ride at Windrock, but I put my Ricochets on last week and I already had some pretty major damage done to my frame rail.

LIke web said, Thank God forRicochets, they should be standard equipment. Just another case of having to buy one thing to cover up the short comings of something else...

I too am a little miffed at BRP's lack of a quality front suspension as advertisied but I can give you a little of the record legal insight. If you take your bike and lift the front end off the ground and gently set it back down, the bike will meetthe 12-inch ground clearance "as advertise". Once you get on the bike or ride it, the average ground clearance is 8 to 11 inches depending on your setup. BRP will call this "SAG Height" and a great benefit for handling (lower ground clearance). Anyway, BRP legal is covered, this is an "upgrade" not a "fix".

You can probably find some ambulance chaser who has nothing better to do than to try and litigate against a giant but make sure YOU DO NOT give him any money/retainer fee to initiate this action. He will not win and only take your money and file some papers.

I wish I had an answer. This would help me and others sleep better at night but in reality the truth is, buy the new shocks or springs or accept something that you cannot change.

As a young man I learned to focus on the positive and let go of the negative. The positive: My bike is faster than all of my buddies. It handles better than all my buddies. It has a better warranty than all my buddies. My bike rides better than all my buddies. Mybike looks cooler than all my buddies. My bike is more expensive than all my buddies (chicks dig that) LOL. My bike sounds better than all my buddies. The overall performance of my bike is better than all of my buddies and to me, that's all that matters.

The negative: CVT cover leaks and the CVT intake sucks water. The ground clearance and front shocks suck. The bike dosen't have a clock. The OEM front brakes lasted 62 miles.

As I see it, the good out weighs the bad. I'm not here to offend anyone, I'm just trying to helpthose that are interested in moving forward and letting go of something that can only cause you distress.

WVBartMan, Well said...It sucks, but I feel you are right. Can-Am would have never released this shock "upgrade" without completely running it through their legal dept. first. u:

just never set it back down and problem solved

all the benefits of looks, sound, handling, etc. flys out the window everytime you bash your front end in front of your buddies. Even if the buddies are able to forget about it, the rider can't...unless you want to keep on bashing it into everything. No, at the priceit is better to just let your buddies go on ahead, you have to be a little more careful than they do.

I gave my money to works already...unless it was a big difference in price, I would do it again before I gave more money to BRP. Before you know it they will be like Harley Davidson and make more money on the aftermarket upgrades.

WV, you are first guy other then me that has talked about sag height, aka Rider Sag. Alot of peeps still aren't getting the message that they need to know just how the suspension should behaive before they go off on a rant about how it's not working yada yada. For those that think the suspension should be topped right out, with force from too much preload, you are in for a wild surprise. Sure you'll have your 12" GC, but you'll also blow those shocks and or flip over in no time. Learn people, learn. I'd be willing to be that 99.999% haven't gone through the proper preload adjustment procedure yet. They just crank it up to max and bitch about it sagging.

Its one thing to have the correct sag when you are on the bike, but my bike was sagging around 3 inches before i would even get on the bike. You could pick the bike up and gently let it hold itself up. you could hold it there and support it and as soon as you let it support itself it would rop 3 inches. It would NEVER stay at 12" of gc or even close. I agree that you need the proper amount of sag, but when i get on the bike and i have less then 7-8" of gc, thats a little bit ridiculous.

My springs were so soft that when the bike only had 4 hrs on it i was riding down the trail at about 10-15mph and hit a bump. A small bump, not a rock ora stump or anything just where the ground had a little hump. I came over that and when suspension started to compress from the downforce my front in slammed down on a rock that stuck out of the ground no more than 2-3"s!!! If i hit it hard and was halling some balls or something i can understand that. But i was taking it very easy BECAUSE i knew i didnt have my skidplates yet. Thanks to my sucky *** springs my frame got some battle scars.

Every suspension needs the correct sag, and springs rates, and shock valving, etc etc etc, but if you guys think that this suspension is properly set up, you guys are ridiculous. I do know about sag, i do know how to set up suspension, i raced motocross of years and that is a critical part key.
