there is absolutly nothing simalar about the ford and dodge 1tons when it comes to feel and drivabilty. i personally love driveing the f-350 over the cummins anyday. love how they shift, the power throught rpm range and jusy overall "feel" . the dodge is nice. but i hate the narrow power band and they way the trany hits so hard when shiffting.....but that does mean it is shifting good and solid reduceing slip and clutch wear. if i was to chose/build...f-350 chasis, cummins engine, ford tranny/driveline....and my 09 1/2 ton dodge interior....would be awsome!!.

Hey Revicm what is your take on the duramaxes? I have a buddy who wants either a Chev Duramax or a Dodge Cummins, but I dont have any experience with either.

If Chev made a truck with a chassis heavy enough for what I want I would buy more Durimaxs...the only pet peeve I have with them is the location of the fuel filter...it is a real PITA to change. I think the Chevs are a much nicer truck for interiors and general looks then the Fords or Dodges. They have all the power you want and the fuel economy is better then the 6 L gas. Alliston Tranny is a winner too. I choose a Chev for my personal truck...Dodge for a work truck...its a comfort thing...lol.

Hey, Rene1, since you are a Dodge Mechanic. I have a squeak in my driveline 2005 2500 QC 8 foot bed. I have jacked it up and placed it in drive and isolated the noise to the front u joint on the rear drive shaft just behind the center support. It almost seems like the noise is in the drive shaft, not the u joint and I cant detect any play in the u joint. I can push up on the shaft by the carrier and it lifts about 1/4 inch out of the rubber surrounding the bearing. Truck only has 50 k miles on the odo. Should I replace all the u joints and the carrier bearing? Squeak only appears in forward and goes away at about 20-25 mph. No clunk either. Any thoughts.

sounds like it is just the beginng stages of dried up u-joint.. if you were to remove the shaft and try to work the u-joints, you will likely fins that it is siezed/siezing. they should work smothly. i have personally never changed a steady bearing on a dodge. ford one yes.

but your best bet is to remove the shaft and play with the joints. if the joints are good, then unbolt the steady bearing from frame and give it a spin on the shaft...it shoudl be smoth and quiet.

doing those few things should isolate you issue.
