HI There
Hello everyone, allow me to introduce myself. I am Mike and I am Soldier currently deployed, well were in Iraq and now we are waiting in Kuwait for something else to go bad. Well on a brighter note I will be home in late summer and I was looking to pick up a Can Am Renegade 800 for when I get home. That brings me to why I joined the forum to ask for information and your experiences and you just cant get the real opinion until you talk to the owners.
I am looking at two ATV's near my home but relying on my brother and GF to check them out. For the moment I ran across a possible deal or two but only you can tell me if that is true or not. The first is a 07 with 784 miles on the clock and 90 hrs but was adult owned and seriously looks like showroom condition, he wants $6,100. The second is a 08 800x with 109 miles and 22 hrs and he wants $6,700.
What I cant seem to find online is breakdown of each model year and what changes were made. I have read about a detune to the low end but increase in top end following the 07 model year and a later change in suspension and the chassis and brakes. Are these good deals? The 08 really seems like it to me considering the new price on these vs my old 2002 Forman 450 but much more advanced and the exact mix of form and function I have been looking for. What is high mileage or hrs for these motors? What is there to watch out for? I will start looking through the forums for answers but your opinions would be great. Thanks and I hope to be a Renegade owner here soon.
Mike

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your service over there!
Go with the Renegade X. It's that much better of a ride.
As for the mileage those machines are barely broken in. There's people here with over 10,000 miles. LOL

Welcome to the forum and stay safe! I would agree with the others go with the 08. Upgrades were done from 07 to 08 to get rid of a few issues like leaking CVT cases. The 09 and up 800 is the "r" motor which has 71 hp as opposed to the pre 09 that has 62 hp (H.O motor). The 08 and below are said to work better out of the hole but the 09 quickly catches up and has more on the top end. Any Can Am 800 you decide on will put a smile on your face.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I think the low end torque of the earlier modes is appealing to me when it comes to tight trails or climbing obsticals when needed but I am sure it will have me grinning ear to ear when I open it up. Thanks for your input ui will see what I can work out and let you know what happens.
I am trying to look closely at the pictures I have of the bike but can't see all the controls. Did the 08 have the upgraded dual brakes? I had read somewhere of them being changed at some point.

Yes sir! That 2008 X has the split front/rear brakes with dual levers.

I wouldn't worry about having the low end, the newer 800's have PLENTY - in case you find a deal on a newer one.
If you really want more low end, you simply add a clutch kit and there are some other little tricks around here that people can help you with.
That 2008X is definitely the way to go, all the way. The '10's and above have a CVT inlet upgrade that moves it up higher. That's worth it's weight in gold for a $89 package.
