06 Outlander 400 Starting Issue

Last week I stopped the cam am out in the back yard and when I went to fire it up I got a click, click, click. Assuming it might not be in park I screwed with the shifter and after a couple of tries with the shifter it started. This happened 2 more times and now it is dead in the water.

I looked for a neutral safety switch but I could not find anything online or in the manual. I started tearing down the electronics to see if there is an issue but no success yet.

Any ideas?

If it is clicking that means it is engaging the started solenoid and either your battery is to weak to start it (maybe not getting charged or its just old), your starter is bad or the solenoid is bad. You can bypass the solenoid by using a screwdriver to arc across it.

Yeah start with the basics- need a strong battery, good connections, and functional starter. I think the shifter had nothing to do with it and the starting system just happened to function at one point while you were wiggling the shifter.

That bike doesn't have a recoil pullrope starter?

It does have a pull start. I never thought to try that out!
