Can a belt change ur top speed?

Ok I know it might be a dumb question but right before I got my ecu reflashed I changed my stock belt(which I burn a little last time I got stuck in the mud) and I put on the cheap gates g series belt (the $52 one, Amazon) anyway I had did the belt break in cycle right before I sent the ecu off, and now my quad doesn't have the same top end before I would hit 73 mph, now I'm only getting 68 mph, I know it's most likely from the flash but I'm just trying to make sure

Yes a belt affects top speed. Belts vary in length and width by a small margin and since you cant adjust belt deflection on stock clutching your top speed will vary

not a dumb question at all. yes belts can affect top end and RPM for the reasons Cad22 mentioned. i noticed it with my gates Carbon and Brp mav belts. With both belts i had to change the weights in my primary to get the Rpms back up. if you got a gates for $52 i believe you got the kevlar. if you have an after market primary just lighten up the weights a tad. Or you could wait a few hundred miles and see if the belt breaks in a little more. i believe this is caused by the after market belts using a little harder rubber compound. I don't believe the reflash would cause this issue.
