Reviewed the pic, looks like you can hit all 3 terminals without it.

You can, real easy to do. The harness they say you need just allows the system to be connected when you are checking the stator output. The tech at my dealer told me this trick.

Just check my stator for fun, It was very easy, checked yellow wire terminals 1&2, 1&3, and 2&3 all @ 0.3 (within resistance levels of 0.1 -1) Very cool and easy how to quick tip. Thanks:nw:

Static test on Insulation good too (Any yellow wire and engine ground) all open circuits- No Shorts...

No problem. If you look real close at the pic, right where the wire broke there is a clamp that holds those wires to the backside of the stator, notice the one side of that clamp is black? That thing got HOT lol.

The coating on the stator musted be damaged from heat. But wondering what aresistance test would show,if tested at wire hookup points? How out of spec is it (from 0.1 - 1 resistance) I know what good numbers look like..

I checked my stator as explained by geoman. I set my multi-meter to ac voltage ( I thoughhe may have been wrong aboutthe AC Voltage but I played along)and hit the plug with it, it only reads 1.5 volts AC @ 4000 rpm's. I was surprised and learned something new here. The AC voltage is converted toDC by the regulator/rectifier.

Also learned that I was incorrectly referring to the stator as the magneto which it is not. Thanks for all the help and your replies. I'll be taking it to the dealer but it'sgood to have an idea whats wrong with the bike, and how to fix it if I had to . Time to use whats left of my warranty. Does anyone know if the warranty is renewable? And is it worth it to renew or extent the warranty period?? How much?

Thanks for the help, WB

When I checked the stator- femaleplug under the seat (wires run to stator)- I use the resistanse setting (upsidedown horseshoe)on the mulitmeter. it was not running or even turned on.just checked for resistance orSTATIC TEST: Countinuity -for spec readings of 0.1 -1 in plug terminals 1&2, 1&3, 2&3. (My reading was 0.3 with in spec)

The 2nd STATIC TEST: Insulation - connect mulitmeter between any yellow wire in plugand engine ground. should read 0.00 (open circuit) using thesame setting on mulitmeter (upsidedown horseshoe). if not 0.00 you have a short.

Hope this helps.

Your exactly right. The stator puts the voltage out as AC volts and the voltage regulator/rectifier converts that over to DC.

I never did a resistance test on mine, once I checked the output voltage I knew it was the stator that was bad.

Wildbill, mine was reading 1.7 when I checked it at 4000RPM before I changed it. I would put money on it that is exactly what your problem is. My dealer did not stock the stator so I had to wait about 2 weeks including them shipping it to me to get it but your warranty should take care of it.
