2025 defender lone star max cab, just installed AA stage 2 lock n load tune.. reflash, muffler, clutch.. less than 20 miles, pulled in garage after 8 mile ride 55mph, cat glowing super red/orange.. i installed there winter stage 2 kit,, never glowed or changed color before tune,, their response was its normal for the cat to turn red.. ? im a mechanic by trade,, this isnt right. its telling me its to much fuel / or timing issue ?

Did you actually stop and look before the tune to see if it glowed? Its definitely not uncommon for them to glow. 8 miles at 55mph most the machines that go through my shop would glow the exhaust. I test drive them for a couple miles at 30mph and most are getting the exhaust cherry red.

i had around 500 miles on it when i installed the kit.. never seen it get red. drove it to work for 3 weeks, 8 miles each way,, never got red, hot yes,, there supposed to, but never glowed. it was so bright i thought i left my rock lights on. its also rattling inside cat now.. going to put stock flash back and tear aprt the exhaust to see if it destoyed the cat

I misread. Thought the machine had less than 20 miles when you did the tune.

So from my understanding, these machines run lean in stock form(I believe @Rslikes provided that info). I have the exact same machine as you, but just the AA muffler, no tune or clutching yet, doesn't seem like my exhaust glows more than normal... I'm sure the AA tune pushes alot more fuel, i wonder if the tune is off, or maybe the cat was already starting to break up... I'm a mechanic by trade as well, would love to hear what you find is the culprit

been online with AA.. the made me another flash.. been pretty good about it.. actually just drove it back to work today.. checked it when i got here,, 8 mile ride 55mph .. just a mild red color,,, not white orange,, seems good. i gather they probably just leaned it out . or at least at the wide open throttle. i'll look again this evening when i get home,, going to run it a bit harder and see.. so far so good

Makes sense, at 55mph you're running a steady 52-5800 rpms sustained, that cat is pretty small and probably gets toasty quick... good to know they're handing it, I've spoke with them a few times, seems like they're good guys with good customer service
