      For doing a permanent repair: If you use the proper tools and connectors there's no reason it can't work out well. The wire stripper/crimper pliers that run $10 or so are NOT the proper tool, and the cheap connectors won't last. BUT, if you don't mind spending a bit more on the tool and connectors:
      This is a good crimp tool. Ratchet action is important.
      Decent butt connectors with heat shrink.

      even those but connectors are junk especially for a main harness repair... I see them failed on a daily basis. They are ok for doing wiring repairs for a light or something similar but never on a main harness. They green out and can end up taking out the computer.
