1.5 inch on engine intake snorkel

1399 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  dmac101
so everyone claims 2 inch is desired for engine air, well i have a g1 xmr, and was just gonna ad on to do my snorkels. a 1.5 inch abs pipe fits into the stock snorkel perfectly then i had went 1.5 to the pod and 2 inch out of the pod. this harm anything.

the factory air inlet isn't even 2 inches so why do people think 2 inch is so important, when the stock xmr snorkel inlet isn't 2 inch

I think it's more of a "more is better than less" type of thing. That way you KNOW youe engine is getting all the air it's ever going to want or need. I think 1.5" is good enough on a stock bike, even slightly modified iy should be fine. I wouldn't think you would need full 2" unless you're running a fully built motor.
The write up I followed for my g2 did 2" to 1.5" into the intake. It should be best of both worlds I haven't had any issues so far.
The longer of a pipe you're going to get more resistance. It's kind of like a wire. A longer wire will require a thicker gauge even at the same voltage and amps. I think doing 2" will just be insurance that you're big enough and not getting any restriction by going smaller and longer.

any actual way to tell if its getting all the air it needs.? if don't feel power loss but how do you actually know
