My 06 400 a couple rides ago developed an occasional backfire. Doing a little research I found that a cracked exhaust pipe at the head could cause it. So I pulled it off and see it cracked at the collar. So I ground the crack and welded it. I did grind the welds down before putting it together. I took it for a ride and couldn’t get to backfire so hopefully it was the problem.

Wow great find, I wouldn't of checked for cracked pipe for backfire issue. Glad you able to find it and fix it. Thanks for posting, this will definitely help out other👍

I was thinking carb issue. When if first happened, I ended up running out of gas about a half mile later. So I thought maybe some junk got pulled into the carb. Will be going camping with it later this week so I'll find out then for sure if it is good or not.
