2011 Can Am Commander 1000 XT - ECU Not recognized ?

I recently got a 2011 commander 1000 XT on a trade deal. Its got a few bumps and bruises and some hiccups. Most of which I can deal with... however, one that I have not been able to find any information on, is when I first turn the key on, it says ECU not recognized.

Along with it having the ECU not recognized, I have a check engine light that is only on while its running. The codes pulled were P0030, P032A, P0324 and P1036. Have not been able to find really any info through my digging about these issues... the machine runs great besides the idle is rough. I rode it for 5 hours yesterday and it never got hot or anything. It simply just idles rough.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the site

files.brptuning.ru - /Bombardier/Manuals/ATV/

Think all the manuals you need for that bike are on that site.

Couple of things come to mind- that P032(A) must be a mistype or maybe a bad filament on the cluster, there's no letters on the tail end of the code there, just numbers.

I'm wondering if it's considering the display like an auxiliary ECU, and there's a connection/communication issue, so it throws that message. The bike wouldn't start/run, if there was an actual ECU issue, in other words.

You've got an oxygen sensor heater error code, a knock sensor? error code? That ain't right, these machines don't have knock sensors or timing adjustment capabilities..... and a couple others I can't find anything on, but it's sure looking like you've got a wiring harness and/or connector/connection issues

Here is a pic of each code that it shows. And yeah its truly weird cause I figured if it was a real ECU issue it wouldn't run correctly, if at all. But it runs, just has choppy idle. All the digging I did I saw that these dont have knock sensors or 02 Sensors so I figured something very strange was up with it.

Looks like that's a P0328 and the bottom filament just didn't fill in.

I'd start with disconnecting the battery, cleaning those connections, and unplugging the ECM and the cluster, and checking and cleaning those plugs as well. Dab a little dielectric grease in before clipping em back together then reconnect your (fully charged) battery, and see what that does for ya

Can't find any sort of significant issues, only plug issue I found was the seat belt plug for the drivers side was knocked ragged by an exploded belt at some point. The ECU looks rather new honesty minus some dust from my ride on Sunday. The numbers on it do not match up to a 2011 can am commander ECU

Well thats not confusing at all, BRP, wth.... I can't find any sequence of those numbers shown, that come close to the PN for the ECM that bike's supposed to have.

That's not to say it's not correct, or at least close, as it shouldn't run otherwise. I almost wonder if previous owner swapped in a "newer" computer and key, but didn't fully have it coded to the bike. That could explain the codes that don't apply to that year model bike.

Is a trip to the local dealer a viable option? Plugging into BUDS and getting some concrete answers could be worth an hour or two of labor rates, imo.

Got tearing into it last night and I discovered the original ECU still in it, just not plugged in. Tried plugging it in and the gauges and everything come on, no error messages, no key error but it has no fuel pump on and it will not try to start with button. Yeah, I'm thinking a trip to the dealer is in my very very near future. Will update what they come up with. Also, 666061 is stock commander ECU.
