Hey guys I'm new here

Went with the L 500 DPS. First ever 4x4 and only second ever ATV

Love this machine, minus the god awful design for doing absolutely any work on it.

Bought some mudguards that didn't line up as designed with a joke for instructions.

Skid plates were a pain.

Basically every accessory i have gotten so far the instructions make me :th_smiliefrustrated

But still having fun on it and no one can tell how bad the parts look to me!!

Congrats! I'm adding skid plates soon not looking forward to the install.
I went with Ricochet skid plates. The install was simple and easy. Everything lined up great.
What were they thinking?

Even routine maintenance is a PIA. How about a spin-on filter and turning the transmission drain screw down 90deg so it lines up with the hole in the skid plate? The skid plate shouldn't be a place to collect drain oil spillage. And what fun to lube the chassis! Great design to ride, but not to maintain.
Perfect! Haven't had to grease it yet. Not looking forward to it.

Taking it in for the 10 hour maintenence next week. $99. So I won't have to grease it until a couple nice rides after that.

Any helpful tips? HA
I thought about the Ricochet but got a deal on the BRP ones because someone ordered the wrong ones and then sold them on eBay

Basically the big problem i had was with the "Inserts" and rivet adapters. It says pull twice on the Rivet punch. Don't pull too hard haha, i snapped 2 out of 4 and they could not just be pulled out, they snapped and the insert locked in cocked.

Other than the Inserts it went pretty smooth. Easier with a buddy to help from the top while you're underneath when it comes to the carriage bolts.
Just recently put a set of BRP skids on my 500L Max. Had to get up and walk away a few times otherwise would have started to kick and throw things. Finally got them all on..but man.. shudder at the thought of having to take them off for any reason. If I do then I'm definitely removing the wheels as someone had mentioned somewhere..would make it a little bit less of a hassle..but not much

Hey did you have an issue with the plow mounts clearing the skid plate?
I also have the alpine flex plow.
Forgot all about that, yes I had to modify it a little bit. Just had to cut a little off each side. Hopefully you can see it well enough in the picture. It is a little blurry.

Wow, that is a good deal. Lots of guys are saying their dealers are quoting in the $400 range for the 10 hr service.

The L looks good. That is some serious bang for the buck with that machine IMO. Can Am sure hit a home run with that one. How do you like the 500? Are you happy with it or craving more power? I was looking at the L and ended up going a little bigger to a 650.

The 500 has plenty of power. The guys I ride with have Polaris 570s,800s
2-1000 renegades and a scrambler 800. Most of the time you can only go as fast as the terrain will allow. 35 or 40mph feels really fast in a tight trail with trees all over
My only complaint is ground clearance. But I'm ready to pull the trigger on some 26" ripsaws.
Not a bad deal at all on the 10hr break in service, i called about my new XTP the other day, and it was $250

I too would like some more ground clearance.(L max)

Since i like radial tires i am thinking about maxxis BH or Ceros 26x9 front 26x11 rear.

The rear rims are 12x7.5 and not 12x8, i suppose that wouldn't be a problem right?

What about rubbing with the trailing arm due to the increased width?
Seems like the gap is small with the 10 inch tires.
Glad to hear about the new purchase.... now you just need to add one of these 640 KITS :D

The L's come with 11in rear tires. the manual states 10 but check your tires they are 11s.

Wow you are right thanks, the tyre size is 280/60-12 which translates to 25x11-12.

Seem like some quality products. But for the price of the kit and labor. I could get a 650 or bigger.

And not trying to be rude
I bought a 500L max a couple months ago and no problem with the power yet. The only problem I have is it seems real tippy on side hills. I think the tires could use another 2-3" spacer to make it a lot more stable. I have already flipped it once at the dunes and at home on the hills it makes me nervous and I am not driving fast there. Mine is also ready for the 10 hour service and the dealer was quoting $499 when I bought it. That seems pretty steep so I am going to check around a bit.

Hey ricochet is finally shipping out my skid plates after 4 weeks. They won't be here until Monday. I wanted to get a head start on removing the stock ones this weekend.
My question is do you remove the front bash plate? Or does the ricochet bolt over top. That piece looks like it wraps around and holds the winch on. Any help would be great. Thanks
