I have a 2018 Can Am Commander that I purchased early this spring I put an new belt on it and complete oil change took it on a week vacation up north and followed the break in procedures for the belt . it jas sat in my barn for several months and now when I drive it on a flat road going either slow or fast when I let off the pedal the unit surges as if the breaking system is ingaging. to the Point it will squalk the tires. I had the electronic belt protection removed from the dealer when I first bought it as you would have to hit the over ride button alot . but on vacation this surging didn't happen . it just started after setting for a few months

Welcome to the site, sounds like you've got a belt grip issue.

Engine braking is just a byproduct of engine vacuum at sufficient rpm so that both clutch sheaves are locked onto the belt. Sounds like one of your clutches, or the belt, are losing and restoring grip during decel, and you get that barking of the tires. It should be a smooth operation. Why did you change the belt?

Thank you for the welcome. I changed the belt as the unit was new to me and was in need of an oil change bad and the belt was squealing alot at low rpms it was an after market belt so I put a new stock one on and the squealing went away . I blew out all the dust and crud in and around the clutches and checked the surfaces and everything looked OK. I wounder if moisture got into the clutch area when I power washed the unit to list for sale . and it's sat in the barn since. I upgraded to a defender max limited

Well not sure if this is the cause yet but I removed to cover to the clutches jacked the rear end up and ran it the wheel stop harsh when I let off pedal I put it in neutral and the rear wheels where hard to turn . then I found this !! the axle is oit of the rear differential

That could sure account for it. Instead of both rear tires gripping to decel, only one was, so it was overrunning the available traction. Looks like it's been out for awhile, sure hope no serious damage was done.

I didn't notice it when I changed diff oil but them again I wasn't looking for it either. but not so sure it didn't just happen when I had the rear end up and running it in gear . other than what you stated how only one wheel locked up . It showed a little wear on the teeth I cleaned that up and got it to go in but not so sure it's in all the way as there is like 1/8 gap on that side and the other side there is no gap . I held the shaft straight and hit it with a dead blow hammer a few times it doesn't want to Go in any further . and the diff spline looked ok so not sure
