And I'm curious again!!!

Just had another thought. My Outlander doesn't have mirrors, it obviously had them originally but someone removed them before I bought it.

I live in Wisconsin( I know I know another friggin cheesehead right?) Does anyone know if mirrors are required on public trails here? I did just a cursory search of DNR site but couldn't find anything there and well I'm feeling lazy. But yes I'm gonna go look some more!

I'd also like opinions on whether they are something I "SHOULD" have, like are they really important or useful or is a guy likely to be just fine without em?

I'll most likely put a set on...just looking for input so I know whether to make it a priority or not.

I would think a UTV would be easy to mount something inside where it should be relatively safe from damage.
Atv's that roll, all bets are off.

Be creative with mounting and try and keep the mirror in a place where you can see as well as either a safe location or using a break away system. I used a cheap bicycle mirror on my klr650 from a company called dual star, they attached to the bars and you looked under your arms to see behind you . Vision was surprisingly good and in too many crashes off road they never were touched because of the location. Now if you run a rear trunk that might not work but it is worth looking at.

Know that there may be more junk mirrors out there too and it is not based on price, I have used excellent $10 mirrors and found $150 mirrors useless . Be sure to look at the mirror in person to verify it has good vision before caring about looks.
The last thing I'm worried about is the safety of mounting one. If I am rolling over, I got bigger issues than that mirror. I'm sure I'll just get the stock Can-Am style and thread it in on the drivers side. I plan on mounting a small LED light on the left side that will turn with the bars.
Thanks, have to try harder to find those I guess. I've only seen the ones that have the mounting bands for a 'normal' handlebar.

Sorry for the hijack, OP!

Larry
No worries, this is how information is shared bud!
running with lights on is a given, but i tend to smash mirrors off.my sxs mirrors lasted 1 whole day.that was it for me.i hate riding with a herd of turtles anyway.my bil knows to hit the throttle heavy if he wants to ride with me.
Must not think much of your BIL. So what if he can keep up, if he runs into trouble he can't count on you to help him.

Fellow Wisconsinite here. I searched "mirrors" in the regulations, the only references to them are when measuring the width of the ATV/SXS.

They are calling these accessories "Not essential" so the way I read it they are not necessary.

As far as mirrors go, I have the Powermadds with the flip out mirrors. As others have said they are nice to have in a group, especially if we have the kids with us. Personally, I don't like the big stand off mirrors that BRP offers.
Should look up the legal definition of "Vehicle".

Oh I'm not worried at all there Sparky. It is literally not my problem. Just know that when you make a public statement, it's not a good look to get yer diaper in a twist when someone points out that yer kinda being a dick. Enjoy your ride.
