Annoying drive line & clutch noise

I have an 08 800 max and since day one it has had a dintinct clack sound in the drive line when you take off even if you are gentle. Is this driveline slop normal, I seem to have it more than my buddys identical unit. just driving around in low I continually hear it from excel to decel and decel to acel situations.

Also I get a an annoying sound from the drive clutch when I am going slow it is that chirping sound like it does in park. What is the fix for this, id did not do it until it had 500 miles on it. It does not do it until the machine is hot.

Your drive shaft slap is TOTALLY normal. They all do it. All brands. Some are worse than others, but they all do it. It is because there HAS to be slack in the shaft, or it would snap.

As for the other noise, is it a quick chirp or is it more like a conituous buzzing or humming that gets louder and quieter?

If it's the first, then you may have worn your belt in a spot, but if it's the second, that's pretty normal.

Also, does it do it in gear, or only in N or P? Or is it at least more noticable in N or P?

I believe I have the same noise. I posted the following on another thread about a month ago..."I have a 2006 800Max that just started making a squeaking noise that appears to be coming from behind the "Driven" pulley. It doesn't make the sound until after everything is warmed up (driven maybe 5 -10 miles). It sounds a little like a dry bearing (makes the squeak once per revolution). When the atv is stopped, it will only make the sound when in park or neutral. If I place the transmission in either H, L or R the squeak stops. This is why I believe the sound is coming from the driven side of the CVT. Any ideas what is causing the squeak? Was in Colorado (Crested Butte area) when this started. After several days, it still sounds about the same. Not noticably louder. Can bearly hear the same squeak when in gear and moving very slowly. Once up to speed there are enough other sounds to drown out the squeak. Is the bearing inside the transmission, behind the driven pulley a sealed bearing or does it get lubricated by "chain case" oil? Any ideas or suggestions?" I did phone Cowtown and they did not think it was this particular bearing. They thought it was just the sound of the belt...belt is almost new..took the pulleys both off.. everything was pretty clean, had not gotten any water in it.. I cleaned both pulleys and put back together but have not had the chance to take it out and see if the noise is gone. It took some time for everything to heat up before it would start making the noise.

A few things, and I'm not quite sure which one fixed it. Mine is always more quiet after I change the chaincase lube. The chaincase is hard on it's lube. Change it often.

My wheeler changes gears easier since I serviced the one-way and greased the slip groove for the springed pins.

Just some ideas.

Make sure your clutches and rollers move easily in the clutch.

mine does it in L and H (only when the atv is moving) as well.. Just much harder to hear it than when in nuetral or park. Leave it in H or L when stopped and the chirp/squeak stops. This seems to narrow it down to being generated by the driven pulley turning and the drive portion of the transmission. I believe it is going to turn out to be the belt squeaking as in rolls around the driven pulley. Sounds like it makes the noise about once ever revolution. It certainly is annoying though. My belt does NOT have a flat spot on it though. Almost brand new belt (360 miles) ... one trip to CO, never smoked it or smelt hot rubber, took both pulleys apart and cleaned even though there was only a little bit of black powder, inspected BRP belt, greased the one-way bearing,,,just haven't had a chance to see if it is better now. Won't make the sound until it has been driven some and warmed up. Definitely is not the one-way bearing, chaincase oil (changed it to BRP Synthetic 360 miles ago as well) or #37 bearing in the parts catalog.

I know it's not a bearing noise, it's a belt noise! There's a big difference between a belt and a bearing noise. I'm going to try one more thing, if it don't work the heck with the noise. There's no problem in the 4 wheeler's moving, no belt noise because it's slipping. It makes the noise in neutral, park, and when I start to move the machine very slowly. As long as the secondary starts to move and the belt starts to drive. Is when the belt squeak starts, it sounds like a few birds in the morning.

Check the U-Joints. I had an annoying chirp and it ended up being the U-Joints on the prop shaft.
