Best Material for Bumper Protection

Wondering what your favorite material is for protecting bumpers when fastening stuff with U-bolts or other mechanical fasteners. Electrical tape? Vinyl hose? Old pajamas?

In my case it's a Kolpin chainsaw mount that is held in place with U-bolts.
