Fuses are funny about blowing, most of the time they blow for a reason, and when changed will blow again. However, some times they just give up the ghost for no apparent reason, or for a very unusual circumstance that doesn't happen very often. Last month my 6x6 blew a 10 amp fuse and I lost power steering and all power to the gauge, and I went into "limp home" mode. I changed the fuse and finished that ride, and when on another ride later with no problems. I did get a hand full of spare fuses to carry.
If I had to guess, on your circumstance, I would tend to lean towards something to do with the water causing your problem, mine however had no water involved when it happened.
