My 2013 1000 outlander max brake lights quit working. The right side bulb was burned out. I replaced it and the brake lights don't work when the hand or foot brake is applied. Any thoughts are help is appreciated.

if both bulbs are good its probably the brake switch, its on the rear master cylinder and they are pretty common issue. you wont be able to start it in gear anymore either.

Ever check you fuses in the front? I'd start with the easiest solution the bulb blowing might of popped a fuse if it got to hot or something.

I had my brake switch fail (broken wires) and tried to locate an aftermarket replacement, but couldn't identify one for sure (they had several different ones on ebay, but none listed for can am) so I went with the oem. Cost was just under $35 with shipping. If your looking for an aftermarket replacement the size is 10M x 1.25. But when I checked the ones on ebay out, they all appeared to have a deeper thread pattern. The one I took out had 6 threads on it, whereas the threads on the brake switch shown on ebay had about 10 threads or more on them, and I didn't know it they would seat properly or not.

got my new switch from BRP coutesy of Canada Post, $8 postage..,..grrrrr. guess they didn't notice the ship to dealer checkbox that was checked off.

I also noticed that I forgot to order new washers. anyone know the size of them off hand, inner diameter should be a hair over 10mm, not sure what the outer diameter is.

Might as well plan an oil change if you're close to time for it, you don't have to but replacing the brake switch requires removing the right side floorboard and that's a PITA for those that have not done this a lot.

Pull the floorboard, on the brake pedal/master cylinder assembly, you'll see two tiny wires going into it, that's the brake switch. The switch works off fluid pressure so when you remove it, some brake fluid will come out. It won't come shooting out but it will dribble out so have the other switch ready to screw back in quickly. No need to try and do it lickity split fast and goof the threads but be quick about it. Tighten it down firmly and plug it in, pump the rear brakes to get pressure built up.

It's that easy. I didn't have to add any fluid, it only dribbles out.

Changed the brake switch, one wire was broken where it exits the body of the pressure sensor. poor design, not near enough strain relief.

I changed it without removing the footwell. Used a C clamp to hold the side of the footwell away. probably about an hour start to finish.
