Can-Am To Enter UTV Market

During an interview with our sister publication, Powersports Business, Bombardier Recreational Products CEO Jose Boisjoli revealed Can-Am will soon enter the side-by-side market.

While a specific date for product availability wasn’t announced, we expect a UTV to be unveiled as a late 2009 model.

“Innovation is the name of the game in our industry,” Boisjoli said to Powersports Business. “Five years down the road, our product will come with advanced technology at a faster pace.”

Don’t expect the new side-by-side to be a product similar to the Rhino or Teryx, as Can-Am has been known to release atypical products in the ATV business.

Boisjoli said BRP focused its R&D resources on the new Spyder three-wheeled motorcycle first, before turning to the side-by-side market.

“It’s not a question of money. It’s a question of resources,” Boisjoli said on why BRP decided to focus R&D on the Spyder and not on a UTV.

“We have to decide where to invest the resources, and we decided to invest in the Can-Am roadster before the side-by-side business. But it will come.

“One day we’ll have a side-by-side. That’s clear.”

We expect the side-by-side to more closely resemble the Polaris RZR rather than a Rhino, and come with the Outlander 800’s powerful liquid-cooled V-twin four-stroke.

It will be next purchase for sure...if it has the 1000CC engine....
:eek:t: I'm sure.

As a second ride? Does your wife ride, want to ride? Neither of us cared for the max. It's like sitting in the back seat of a car. I love the RZR, just want to see a Rotax under the hood.:wh:

Oh yeah...She has ridden several times with me and the guys. She had a 08 Outty 800XT and we sold it before it got too many miles on it (got $7700 for it)...in anticipation of the CA side by coming out...

We want the S x S ...So we can all ride together....and I mean the seven year old daughter as well...I envision them in it and me on the R....

And you are right... I like the Max, but..to me it would just not be comfortable for two riders on the longer trips...

BRP pulled 2 models for the 2010 Ski-Doo line up, the 1200 Summit and the 800R E-Tec motor. I was told that SxS will be out this year. Although I still question the info, not the source. 1000cc, PS and the Renegade front end is in order. I have the first 30 sold if/when they ever get here.

We did 60 miles in the mountains on one trip in 2008. The wife, who has had back surgery, was still good to go on our 500 Max.

Just thought I'd throw this at ya.. I hear some very concrete evidence that can-am will be testing/introducing the can-am SXS at carolina adventure world the weekend of april 3rd-5th. Speculation is that it will be around the 1100cc range and priced at a competitive number to the other top selling units from other OEM's. Like I said, its mere speculation but I normally dont put my foot where my mouth is and I'm hoping this isnt one of those times.

There may be some evidence this could be true. CAW has on their site they will be closed on Friday the 3rd and Monday the 6th for a "CORPORATE EVENT DAY". This could easily be a ruse to cover the fact that Can Am could be doing some shakedown runs or early press previews during those times. Who wants to camp out at CAW with some good camera equipment???

We are only about 1.5 to 2 hours from there. We could take donations via paypal or something (any amount ($1.00 to ???) and I can hire someone to see if they can get in and either pry any concrete info and/or get pics or videos. The only downside to that would be if whoever we sent could not get in or was not allowed to take photos or vids. I will kick in $10 myself!

I remember the movie, but can't recall the line or the meaning. The only line I really recall is Bob Barker's famous "THE PRICE IS WRONG XXXXX!" (can't say it, but you know if you have seen the movie!):tg:
Matt.....That was one of my favorites...."Happy Gilmore" with Adam Sandler...
