Can-Am To Enter UTV Market

During an interview with our sister publication, Powersports Business, Bombardier Recreational Products CEO Jose Boisjoli revealed Can-Am will soon enter the side-by-side market.

While a specific date for product availability wasn’t announced, we expect a UTV to be unveiled as a late 2009 model.

“Innovation is the name of the game in our industry,” Boisjoli said to Powersports Business. “Five years down the road, our product will come with advanced technology at a faster pace.”

Don’t expect the new side-by-side to be a product similar to the Rhino or Teryx, as Can-Am has been known to release atypical products in the ATV business.

Boisjoli said BRP focused its R&D resources on the new Spyder three-wheeled motorcycle first, before turning to the side-by-side market.

“It’s not a question of money. It’s a question of resources,” Boisjoli said on why BRP decided to focus R&D on the Spyder and not on a UTV.

“We have to decide where to invest the resources, and we decided to invest in the Can-Am roadster before the side-by-side business. But it will come.

“One day we’ll have a side-by-side. That’s clear.”

We expect the side-by-side to more closely resemble the Polaris RZR rather than a Rhino, and come with the Outlander 800’s powerful liquid-cooled V-twin four-stroke.

BRP pulled 2 models for the 2010 Ski-Doo line up, the 1200 Summit and the 800R E-Tec motor. I was told that SxS will be out this year. Although I still question the info, not the source. 1000cc, PS and the Renegade front end is in order. I have the first 30 sold if/when they ever get here.
The latest rumors come from Quebec, Canada. My body talked with his friend a Can-Am dealer and he told him we should see the new SxS in June 2009, let's keep our finger cross.

I have my name on the first one coming to our local dealer.

The New release date last year was May 5th..

I would expect this years release date to be around that same time period...so we'll see...
Oh yeah, I forgot it was that early. I hope they do it early again this year.

I do not like this one but since no body know it might be true. This isfrom an other SxS forum:

Let me put some rumors to rest. No release until May of next year 2010.

I know several people in product development and they stated a while back it would be 2010.

With all the rumors on the net I check in every now and then, still on schedule for May of next year.

Final decisions on several things have not been finalized.

Be patient but expect something really good!!

Well, one thing for sure, I dont think I will be buying any other SxS before the BRP comes out...
And I dont know really if I will buy the first one of theirs out.. but, I WOULD like to SEE it this year, versus next.. That would mean I am a year CLOSER to getting it!! LOL

Yeah I saw that. I posted the links because I thought it was funny but yet weird. Why would they joke, or lie? Some type of bait for customers, or a very late April fool's joke.

Maybe got wind of the name and engine size but no other details. Or total BS. I remember last year how Outlandish couldn't say a thing until the given day. Kind of risky on the dealers part IMO.

Since we are on the subject, Don have you gotten the details again this year? Just a yes or no.

Dang, we are still over a month away from last years release.

Even if it is a total fabrication, I wouldn't play with something like that. What if the joke is close to what's actually coming out, just too risky, like you said.

I called the dealer and the manager said that he has 5 pre-ordered. They are 1000cc twins available in black and yellow and the msrp is 16K. He will reserve one for anyone with a 1K deposit. It is a 2 seater, 60" wide, and will arrive in mid July. These were all his words....

$16K...:yikes....

I bet they will sell for less than that or they better ....if not BRP will be pricing themselves out of a lot of market share...

I just talked to my dealer they said March 2010???????

I don't think they really know for sure...

I'm not saying I believe a word he's saying. I'm just wondering why would he tell everyone that when they call? I know of others he has told the same thing to.
