Can-Am To Enter UTV Market

During an interview with our sister publication, Powersports Business, Bombardier Recreational Products CEO Jose Boisjoli revealed Can-Am will soon enter the side-by-side market.

While a specific date for product availability wasn’t announced, we expect a UTV to be unveiled as a late 2009 model.

“Innovation is the name of the game in our industry,” Boisjoli said to Powersports Business. “Five years down the road, our product will come with advanced technology at a faster pace.”

Don’t expect the new side-by-side to be a product similar to the Rhino or Teryx, as Can-Am has been known to release atypical products in the ATV business.

Boisjoli said BRP focused its R&D resources on the new Spyder three-wheeled motorcycle first, before turning to the side-by-side market.

“It’s not a question of money. It’s a question of resources,” Boisjoli said on why BRP decided to focus R&D on the Spyder and not on a UTV.

“We have to decide where to invest the resources, and we decided to invest in the Can-Am roadster before the side-by-side business. But it will come.

“One day we’ll have a side-by-side. That’s clear.”

We expect the side-by-side to more closely resemble the Polaris RZR rather than a Rhino, and come with the Outlander 800’s powerful liquid-cooled V-twin four-stroke.

Heard today that we will hear something at the end of this month.I hope they say something about the atv line up also.
I think can-am might have waited too long,my rzr dealer today had them all.4 seater,rzr-s,and all other that they make about 15 of them just sitting there. This time last year they was just taking deposits.......

Are those rzrs any good? I know they still have the dreaded POLARIS sticker on the front bumper.:clapsmilie:lol. I've got a buddy who bought one and he just love muddling his Rancher. Now, I don't hear much of anything from him one way or another. I know many of my sportsman buddies are just a wrenchn:tools1: on their machines to keep 'em runnin.

I just have a hard time spending more on a sxs than i full size pick up! These things will prolly MSRP at about 19gs or so. They would then sell at about 16 to 17 or so I would imagine maybe more. If the 800 outlander is MSRP @ like 13. WOW! That's a ton of cash! A can pick up an 04 4 door F-150 Lariat 5.4L Triton for a little more than 13k. Similar to the spider I'm not sure how large the market for a sxs or something priced like this would be. But that's just me.

Look for the first of June. And i know the wait after a few years, 2 more months will about kill us.

Tried to talk my dealer into letting me tag along for the unveiling when he goes, but no deal. Oh well, dealer meeting on the sxs the day before it will be released to the press.

That's the thing with BRP Can-Am, they are very good at keeping it under covers. I too would be very surprised if a SxS was on the truck this weekend. I don't think BRP Can-Am would release a new product that way! Not that it matter to me because I have no interest or use for a SxS. Personally I think BRP Can-Am missed the boat on this one. Anyone how wanted a SxS by now, has already bought one. But you know I could be wrong, they may be coming out with such an amazing SxS that everyone will want to trade in there SXS for a Can-Am SxS!!!

When they announce it in just over a month, it will be a 2011 model. Same as it has been for quite some time. Nothing has changed.
