Hi guys sorry if this sort of thing has been asked before, I have searched the internet and got that many answers I am confused, so I thought I would start a thread with my own experience and see if it is anything to worry about or normal!

I have a DS650 Baja X, 2004, only had it a few months and it is in good order. She starts sweet, runs perfect but I have a strange clanking/knocking noise when in drive, mainly when the speed picks up, don't hear it slow cruising and can't hear anything when I really open her up. Its not there in neutral, only when in forward motion and it doesn't matter if clutch is in or out.

It sounded like a loose sump guard knocking against the frame, I have checked everything including chain tension etc. She drives smooth no stutters just this clank, clank, clank (more noticeable on the road) that is driving me mad. The noise doesn't slow or get more rapid as I speed up slow down its the same tempo all the time.

It may be normal, I don't know anyone else with a DS650 and I have checked all over for something loose.

My attitude is just ride, but I am a little worried and confused....

Your experiences may put my mind at ease or help point me in the right direction :th_smiliebanana2:

Thanks and hello from Kevin in Spain!

Welcome to the site Kevin. I'm trying to think of something that could be loose, as you say if it is always the same tempo when you speed up. I am not familiar with the DS. do you have any idea where it comes from, the front end, mid or aft. ? Loose plastics, loose exhaust or exhaust shield even rattling. Can you video record it and upload to youtube so more ears could hear that clank.?

Tx for the reply very much appreciated.....

It sounds like its coming from somewhere in the mid section of the bike, I am going to try it out on a smooth road to see if I can identify it a little better, on the trail its difficult to pinpoint anything.

I cannot find anything loose and will try and investigate further, maybe even jack it up and run it slowly and see if it is there, which will mean definitely something internal!

As a matter of interest I have seen people refering to clutch slip when they have the wrong oil in there, what are the tell-tale signs of this I guess the bike would just stutter and struggle especially on a gear change?

Tx

KEVIN
